Volunteers are essential in our ability to accomplish our mission. Without our dedicated volunteers, who generously give their time and energy to keep our Administration, Thrift Shop, Resource Centre and Childcare running smoothly, we would not be able to offer such a wide range and high quality services.
There are a number of positions for which we accept volunteer applications on an ongoing basis. Click on the links to download the Volunteer Application and Job Description for the following positions.

THRIFT SHOP VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
- TTS VOLUNTEER CASHIER JOB DESCRIPTION * Provide customer service, ring sales through the cash register, and keep the storefront tidy and organized.
- VOLUNTEER PRICERS JOB DESCRIPTION * Assess the value of donated items and price them according to store guidelines.

CHILD CARE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION
* Assist staff in creating a nurturing, safe, stimulating childcare environment for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers attending the Thrive Child Care.
All volunteers will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement, agreeing to keep all client information confidential. Volunteers will also be required to sign a Disclosure Statement, stating if they have any criminal convictions or current criminal charges. Positions that work with children or work one-on-one with clients will require a Child Abuse Registry Check, at the applicant’s expense. Having a criminal record or criminal charges does not necessarily mean that a person cannot volunteer – a decision will be made based on the recency of the charges and the relevancy to the position.

A United Way Winnipeg Day of Caring is an opportunity for workplaces to volunteer and help a United Way Winnipeg agency partner or non-profit organization complete a project that contributes to local community development, renewal, and pride. Building something, painting, helping put on an event for children or cleaning up a community space are common Day of Caring examples.

This unique, year-round opportunity for co-workers and other groups to make a difference in Winnipeggers’ lives by working together on meaningful volunteer projects with local community organizations that focus on:
- Helping kids be all they can be;
- Moving people from poverty to possibility; and
- Encouraging healthy people and strong communities
United Way will match your volunteer group with a non-profit organization to complete a project that complements your priorities, skills, schedule and available people power. Most projects require between five and 20 volunteers; take an average of four weeks to plan, and one-half to one full day to complete.
Past projects have included:
- Helping host a special event like a community barbeque or holiday party
- Working alongside community residents to help beautify a neighbourhood by planting flowers, building a community garden, or participating in a community cleanup
- Collecting donations of much-needed items, including gently used clothing or household goods, hygiene products, or new socks and underwear
- If you have an idea for a project not already on our list, we’ll be happy to explore the need and opportunities.
