The Benefits of Being a Volunteer

Anyone who has volunteered knows the great job and satisfaction that comes from helping others. Studies have shown that volunteers gain health benefits, social connections and an emotional boost when they give time and effort to a worthy cause.

We want to see our community thrive and we know that fostering an environment of caring and sharing is foundational to all that we do. Those who come to us with a difficult past report that they find meaningful connections through their volunteer experiences at Thrive. We meet people where they are at and provide opportunities to engage in ways that help them develop and move forward on their life’s journey.

I came to volunteer at Thrive a year ago. It gave me such a sense of belonging, to be amongst people helping those in need. I find myself waking up early because I WANT to be at work!” – Danielle

I really enjoy meeting with the customers and listening to their stories. It gets me out of the house and keeps me active and social. It feels like a family. It’s a great experience and a great feeling to be helping people in need.”- Addie

I like that we get a lot of regular customers. It adds to the experience to know them on a personal level. It’s nice to make them feel good when they come here.”  – Chelsea

I like the people I work with.  They’re kind, and everyone is always smiling.” – Davon

Volunteer Requirements

All volunteers are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement, agreeing to keep all client information confidential. Volunteers will also be required to sign a Disclosure Statement, stating if they have any criminal convictions or current criminal charges. Positions that work with children, or work one-on-one with clients, will require a Child Abuse Registry Check, at the applicant’s expense. Having a criminal record or criminal charges does not necessarily mean that a person cannot volunteer – a decision will be made based on the recency of the charges and the relevancy to the position.
