Community Barbecue
We had a wonderful day at Thrive with a community barbecue, celebrating the progress of our new building at 555 Spence Street! This event was hosted by our dedicated staff, volunteers, and Men’s Group, who supported our gathering to give back to the community. While we were there, a wall was delivered and erected, marking another exciting step in the development of our new space.
We were honoured to welcome special guests, including:
Elder Billie Schibler – providing guidance and wisdom for our work
Kristie Pearson – Linking Hope
Darren Anderson– Community Engagement Manager at United Way Winnipeg
Hon. Bernadette Smith, Minister of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness
MLA Tyler Blashko (Lagimodiere) – attending on behalf of the Provincial Minister of Education
Gerry Harms, Project Manager from Winnipeg Building & Decorating
Paige Lloyd, Maggie, and Melanie from ArCCADD Architecture
Intact Insurance Community Fund – gave a $3,000 contribution toward the new building project
Julie from JEM Insurance matched it with an additional $3,000!
This support ensures that our new building will continue to be a welcoming space for wraparound services, community programs, and opportunities for healing.

Thrive Is: Written by a Community Member
“When I think about Thrive Community Support Circle, the first things that come to mind are professionalism mixed with warmth. Every time I walk through the doors, I feel accepted and cared for. The staff not only greet me kindly, but I’ve also noticed how others are welcomed, often offered a tea or coffee right away, and treated with respect no matter what their situation may be.
For me personally, my counsellor is usually right there when I arrive. If not, they are always notified and quickly comes out to greet me. I’ve never been left waiting. During my counselling sessions, my counsellor has been patient, compassionate, and encouraging. At the same time, they challenge me to try new approaches and explore ideas that could support my healing. My counsellor lets me know about group programs and other opportunities that could benefit my recovery journey.”
“Overall, I truly believe Thrive is an asset to our community. They meet people without judgment, offer real support, and create a space where people can grow. I’ve already suggested their services to others who are struggling, because I know firsthand how much of a difference they can make.”
Our Community Speaks:
“Thrive has been such a reliable partner for me, helping with accessibility, family support, and paperwork. I’ve been visually impaired for eight years, and my partner is visually impaired too, so having accessible spaces really matters. I would love to attend the parenting programs in the new Thrive space, but only if they’re accessible for people like me and for parents using wheelchairs or strollers. A fully accessible building would make a huge difference—not just for me, but for so many families in Manitoba who need support.”Victoria
“There are so many people who need help—whether it’s with food, clothing, family support, or addiction. Having a bigger space on Spence will make it easier for everyone in the community to get the support they need.”Jayline
“Everyone is welcoming, supportive, and working together—but the space just doesn’t match the people or the work being done. It’s cramped, tricky to get around, and everything feels stuck in corners. More room would make a real difference for everyone here.”Rich
“Thrive helped me learn tools to manage my anger and really supported me in a personal way. I can see how having more space would help them reach and support even more people.”Brad
